About Jose

Miguel familyGood regional restaurants are hard to find. They need to be able to tempt "out of towners" whilst showing loyalty to the locals. Arnott's Bakehouse manages to do just that.

Under the ferocious tongs of chef, Jose Miguel, Arnott's Bakehouse proves that good food does not stop at the F3 and can be found in Morpeth, a wonderfully historic river side town 30 minutes from Newcastle and the vineyards of the Hunter Valley.

Jose has been at the stove for the best part of 18 years, working in the Hunter for the last four of these. He is passionate about sourcing local seasonal ingredients (which helps keep the food miles down) and showing that the less fiddling you do, the better the meal these ingredients produce.

He married a local girl and returned to the area four years ago after travelling and working in Sydney (Banc, Lucciola, Cadmus), London (The Red Room, Lindsay House, Chez Bruce ) and wooing diplomats and celebrities in his native Philippines as a personal chef.

Jose, Alex, his wife and sons Xavier and Oscar would love to see you at Arnott's Bakehouse and look forward to sharing a great Hunter Semillon or Shiraz with you when you arrive-(maybe not with the boys!).

PS. If Jose is not here, he is probably at the golf course, you can also join him here if you wish. Just don't tell Alex!
